Hi VK

I have just read through your latest article posted today,14 May, entitled Search Engine Optimization SEO and checked that I have followed your recommendations and discipline for SEO.

I have my permalinks set as /%postname%/

I saw in the article that you recommended for a sub domain a permalink structure of /%postname%.php

I set this and updated permalinks but unfortunately when I called the full posts from the front page that I got a 404 error instead.

I did not want that so I changed back!!

I think that I have now done all that I can towards optimisation without some further guidance from you which is eargerly awaited.

Thanks again.

Hi VK

The HTTP Redirect to http://girltalk.pcs-net.com/b2 rather than http://www.girltalk.pcs-net.com/b2 was an oversight which I thank you for pointing out and which I corrected.

When I started this information site it was intended to be branded Down To Earth Cyprus and I registered that domain at One and One. But I did not like the hosting service at One and One and reused the http://girltalk.pcs-net.com sub domain hosting from Penguin as a temporary measure. What I found as I developed the Wordpress site was that the Penguin Hosting was very good in running the Wordpress application and Penguin Support was extremely good.

So it stayed on Penguin. And I do not wish to disturb it. I established the sub sub domain as http://girltalk.pcs-net.com/b2 from Wordpress but then decided to restate it as http://www.girltalk.pcs-net.com/b2 only recently for consistency.

As Down To Earth Cyprus is still my brand name I wanted it still to appear in searches for my type of Cyprus information, namely Cyprus Property. So in the One to One Control Panel I opted for frame so that I could enter meta data. I have returned this to HTTP Redirect on your post prompt above.

Also recently I have noticed many of my posts going Supplemental on Google and hits reducing significantly. I think that this was caused by using a Wordpress Plugin called Oldest to Newest which revolved my posts which received a fresh post date. I have deactivated this.

Nevertheless I have since read everything else I could find which suggested strategies for dealing with the Google Supplemental issue including using the Options in the latest version of AdFlex Blog.

In addition I have a competitor who is now mirroring my marketing strategy in terms of Meta Data and key words using an application running on Wordpress.com.

I have just changed my approach in an attempt to create blue water again.

So what I have been trying to do is tidy up and focus my approach to SEO by using AdFlex as a discipline.

If you have any suggestions of things that I can do differently then I shall be happy to have you advice.

Regards

dolmadis,

I don't know if it was the wanted purpose of it looks like that your web site http://downtoearthcyprus.net uses one main frame that contain the real web site content that is located at another URL http://girltalk.pcs-net.com/b2.

There're some potential issues by doing in such way and especially at the level of the SEO, PR distribution, and also the HTTP Redirect from http://girltalk.pcs-net.com/b2 to http://www.girltalk.pcs-net.com/b2.

At least you can change the source of the frameset from http://girltalk.pcs-net.com/b2 to http://www.girltalk.pcs-net.com/b2 to fix the last potential issue.

I don't know exactly the desired effect that you wanted, but you can also explain me a bit, and I may have another way for you to implement the intended behavior.

Hello dolmadis,

<blockquote>
I have added a simple search facility in the side bar but I would prefer a heading to the block as “Search” in the same style as “Navigation” and the other side bar headings.
</blockquote>

Your search code is quiet nice. You just need to add some extra code around.

Please read the following post that I've just added:
<a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.askvk.com/adflex/add-a-search-box-to-adflex.php" title="Add a Search Box to AdFlex" rel="nofollow">Add a Search Box to AdFlex</a>

It should fix your issue.

We'll also integrate the same kind of code in AdFlex 0.8.9.9.

Cheers,
VK

Hi VK

I have been using the adflex blog for several months now and have been very pleased with it.

I have just upgraded and this time I made a note of the small number of plugin mods that I had a preference for; numbered page navigation for posts and folding navigation in the side bar.

I have added a simple search facility in the side bar but I would prefer a heading to the block as "Search" in the same style as "Navigation" and the other side bar headings.

I have tried a few hacks but have failed so far.

Would appreciate some help to do this and leave the site still looking smart.

Hi Laurie,

The 3 blogs look fine.

After a quick look, I've found some items that you may wish to fix:

1) URL: http://www.southimage.net/sapphire-coast-news/youth-week-2007-%e2%80%93-launch-yourself.php

The URL is strange. It's based on the post slug that contains a strange char. The strange char comes certainly because Wordpress has converted a special char you've put in the post title. I suppose it's something to do with a special version of the hyphen. Most of the case, it's the side effect of a copy/paste from a Microsoft Word document. MS Word used to write down a special hyphen char instead of the typical fixed and rigid one.

You can change the value of the Post Slug field to fix this issue.

2) URL: http://www.southimage.net/sapphire-coast-news/hello-world.php

Well, you know where is the potential issue there ;-). Now it's up to your wish to update the Post Slug or not.

In term of SEO, such title may be triggered by one of the 100+ Google algorythms and may be classified as poor quality page, etc. Better to get used to fix such easy to fix item.

3) URL: http://www.southimage.net/wilderness-travel/this-is-a-test.php

Same comment as point 2. Post Slug to be updated if you wish.

Except the little items listed above. All the rest seems perfect :-).

I'll try to talk next time about some other on-page SEO items that may help people get some extra little Google Quality Score left and right.

All the best!

Hey Laurie,

Quick answer to your issue with Wordpress permalinks as it's the most urgent item.

What you've done in in WP Admin \ Options \ Permalinks looks fine. After clicking on the button "Update Permalink Structure”, Wordpress will display in a textarea the content that the file .htaccess will have to contain. Copy/paste that content to the file .htaccess that has to be placed at the URL http://www.southimage.net/wilderness-travel/.htaccess. and if the file .htaccess doesn't exist, just create it.

It should solve your issue.

Now as you have several blogs under the same domain name, it's better for you to choose a different Custom structure like: /%postname%.php. The purpose is to not put your post article in a deep sub-directory structure that will diluate your PR. You can try it on one of your blog if you want and you'll certainly see the effect.

I'll cover the other questions next time.

Cheers,
VK

Helo again VK.

On my Wilderness Travel blog, the links from the home page to the posts are not working. Maybe it's the result of my doing the following:
quote
1) Please use SE friendly URLs by doing:

- Go to WP Admin \ Options \ Permalinks
- Type in the field Custom structure: /%category%/%postname%.php OR /%articles%/%postname%.php
- Type in the field Category Base: /category
- Click on “Update Permalink Structure”

Then if needed copy/paste the .htaccess content that is displayed to you and add it to the root of your Blog Address root URL (the specific one)

You have to do it for each of your blogs.
end quote

I haven't put the stuff in the .htaccess file. Where do I find the .htaccess file?

Thanks,
Laurie.
